Facebook is the most popular social media website in the world. Along with being such a big and very popular social media website there are bound to be people who “Dislike” Facebook. Before you guys start thinking that this is an article to bash Facebook I want to let you know that this article is in fact, not a Facebook bashing article. What I am talking about is the rumor that is showing up all over the internet that Facebook is going to introduce a Dislike button to go along side their famous Like button. This rumor has been a very popular one that is spreading and that is leading some people to think that Facebook really is going to introduce a Dislike button to go along with their Like button. The rumor has it that the Dislike button is going to be introduced on Facebook so that users can choose to Dislike something, and not just Like something.
This rumor has been set to rest by Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg during Facebook’s live streaming (Streamed live on Facebook) questions and answers video session last Wednesday. This was only Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s second ever questions and answers video session. This questions and answers session was held in Menlo Park California which is where the headquarters of Facebook are located.
The opening question came from a UC Davis law student going by the name Eric. Eris asked “Judging by the success of the Like button, has there been any conversations about adding a Dislike button?”. Mark Zuckerberg replied back saying “You know, we are thinking about it, on the Dislike button”. Right after he answered the question the way he did, the internet started to explode with stories about Facebook adding a Dislike button on their social media website. Mashable, CNET and a lot of other websites had articles about Facebook adding a Dislike button to their website.
Soon after his statement Mark Zuckerberg was quick to clarify his answer to the question by saying “Some people have asked for a Dislike button because they want to be able to say, ‘That thing isn’t good’. Then he added “And that’s not something that we think is good for the world. So we’re not going to build that. I don’t think there needs to be a voting mechanism on Facebook about weather posts are good or bad. I don’t think that’s socially very valuable or good for the community to help people share the important moments in their lives.”
So if you go by Mark Zuckerberg’s first answer then it seems like a Dislike button Facebook might be introduced some time in the future. However, if you go by Mark’s second answer, it looks like there will not be a Dislike button any time in the near future. So, which will it be, Facebook will add a Dislike button to go along with their Like button or Facebook will not be adding a Dislike button to go with their Like button? It seems that if you take all the information and analyze it, you might be confused on what Facebook will actually do about adding a Dislike button. I guess the world will just have to wait and see if Facebook will add a Dislike button. I don’t know about all of you, but I don’t “LIKE” not having a clear answer!
