Yes $100 = 7 Plus, meaning $100 will get you a new HP 7 Plus Android tablet. Just a couple days ago HP announced their new $100 7” display Android based tablet and at first glance it seems like this might be a big hit for the HP tablet division. Maybe HP can capture a nice portion of the budget tablet market with this sweet little Android tablet.
First off, most tablets in this price range are either no-name brand (a brand you never heard of) tablets, older models with out-dated specs or maybe some refurbished units. Usually $100 US won’t get a name brand tablet with anything worth taking note of but this tablet might just be something different from the norm as far as budget Android based tablets.
Getting into the specs of this 7” Android based tablet, there are some nice features considering the budget price. First, there is a Quad core 1GHz CortexA7 CPU. Then you combine that with 1 GB of DDR3 SDRAM for the system memory. It comes with 8 GB of internal storage for apps and things and a micro SD port to add some additional memory for those who need more storage than the 8 GB that comes standard with this tablet. It has wireless connectivity with built in 802.11 b/g/n capabilities. The display is a 7” diagonal display with a resolution of 1024×600 and is multi-touch enabled. It also has a micro USB port, a built in microphone, a 3.5mm headphone port and the previously mentioned micro SD port for additional storage memory. As for built in cameras, it has a forward facing (Front) 0.3MP camera and a 2 MP rear facing (Back Side) camera. This new HP tablet is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and although we would have liked to see at least Android 4.3 or better yet Android 4.4 rather than the Jelly Bean version that comes with this tablet is better than you would normally find in a tablet in this price range.
As you might expect a tablet with these specs isn’t going to be out performing some of the upper end tablets but for $100 new, it will outperform most tablets in the same price range. We would have like to have seen a slimmer bezel around the display screen but it still looks pretty good. It doesn’t look cheap as most tablets in this price range tend to. The white and silver exterior colors tend to make this nice budget Android tablet look like it would be in a higher price range than the $100 list price that it is in. The one area that I personally would have like to see an improvement in is the battery life. The battery life on this HP 7 Plus Android tablet is about 5 hours and 30 minutes. That’s not bad but I myself would like to see something around the 8 hour mark.
Overall this budget Android based tablet is one of the better deals you are going to find in the $100 price range for a new Android tablet. The specs this device has should mean that it will run just about anything you will need it to without any major lag. I myself would feel much more comfortable spending $100 on this tablet, a major name brand (HP) then to spend the same amount of money of a tablet of the same price for a brand name I have never heard of before. If you have the extra $100 you might want to pick up one of these nice budget tablets just to play around with or maybe as a nice little gift for a family member or a friend.
