If you are a gamer then this Shield is for you! The Nvidia Shield 2 Google Android based tablet was designed and built with gaming in mind. Check out the specs below and see if you might be interested in picking up one of these game oriented Android tablets. If you are a gamer then this slick tablet might be just what you are looking for.

At first look the Nvidia Shield 2 tablet might look like just another premium Android based tablet but looks can be deceiving. This tablet boasts an 8” 1900×1200 display making for some great looking graphics for games. It has a 13.1 ounce weight which is over 7 ounces lighter than the original Nvidia Shield Android tablet. Though it’s not the lightest 8” tablet on the market, this tablet was built for gaming and as such part of the extra weight comes from an extra thermal shield built in for extra cooling.

The Shield 2 has a 5MP camera on both the front and the rear of the device as well as 2 front facing speakers. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top of the device for those who want to play without interruptions. Other ports built into the Shield 2 include a Micro USB port, a Micro SD card slot capable of utilizing up to 128MB memory cards and an HDMI out port. As for buttons on the Shield 2, it has a power button that is a little on the small side and it also has a volume rocker that has a nice feel to it. The Nvidia Shield 2 comes with the latest Google Android KitKat 4.4 version installed and Nvidia says it will have an update to the new Android L Operating System (OS) as soon as it is released by Google.

Now what good would all these features be good for if the Shield 2 didn’t have some awesome processing power? Well Nvidia made sure that the Shield 2 had the latest and greatest processor on the market with the new Nvidia Tegra K1 mobile superchip. This processor is a 2.2Ghz quad-core chip with Nvidia’s Kepler GPU architecture and with 192 CUDA cores. It also has 2GB of low power DDR3 ram. This is some serious processing power.

Since this tablet was built and designed for gaming it would not be the complete gaming experience without the optional ($59US) Shield controller. While most game controllers for Android devices operate using Bluetooth, Nvidia decided to go with a Wi-Fi direct system stating that this system has a response time that is 2 times quicker than a Bluetooth device and has more bandwidth.

If you want a top of the line gaming experience on an Android based tablet then this would be a great choice. Nvidia has crammed so much gaming power into this 8” tablet that as of right now, this is a serious gamers only real choice for a tablet that was built for gaming. Though the Shield 2 is not the cheapest tablet on the market, it’s starting price of $299US for a 16GB model is money well spent for an awesome gaming experience on the Android tablet that was made for gamers!
